New Era × Casselini: The 9THIRTY Cap That Puts a Tokyo Flower on a New York Icon

There is a particular kind of cap that tells you who made it before you read the label. The New Era® 9THIRTY™ is one of them — the soft, unstructured, low-profile silhouette with the adjustable strap at the back that American sport quietly turned into a global everyday-wear default.

Now look at the front of this one. Where you would expect a team logo, there is instead a small woven patch carrying Casselini’s signature flower motif and the word “Sound.” That single substitution is the whole story of the New Era × Casselini 9THIRTY — a New York cap silhouette speaking a Tokyo accessory house’s design language.

The two names on the tag

Casselini is the namesake bag-and-accessory line of 株式会社キャセリーニ (Casselini Inc.), a Tokyo women’s fashion-goods house founded in February 1987 and rooted in Jingumae, Shibuya — the Harajuku district. Its defining structural choice, which we have written about at length, is that it organises its design calendar around collaboration capsules rather than seasonal collections.

New Era®, founded in Buffalo, New York in 1920, needs less introduction. The 9THIRTY is its adjustable, unstructured cap platform — the relaxed counterpart to the fitted 59FIFTY — and it has become one of the most widely worn cap shapes in the world precisely because it fits everyone and dresses down everything.

New Era × Casselini is not a one-off. It is a recurring seasonal collaboration in the Casselini calendar, returning across drops the way the house’s longer-running partnerships do.

What the cap actually is

The cap is the standard 9THIRTY build — six panels, soft crown, curved brim, adjustable back strap, the New Era flag embroidered at the left temple and the 9THIRTY badge left on the brim where collectors expect it.

Casselini’s contribution sits on the front: the flower-motif “Sound” patch, rendered as embroidery rather than print so it carries the same tactile, made-object quality as the brand’s bag charms and small leather goods.

  • Price: ¥6,600
  • Colours: navy and ivory (a black colourway has already sold through)
  • Fit: one size, adjustable strapback
  • Status: among the season’s best-selling pieces on the Casselini store

It is, in other words, an entry-priced way into a collaboration house whose bags run several times higher — which is part of why caps like this tend to move quickly.

Why this collaboration works

Casselini’s design vocabulary is motif-led, and every collaboration is a negotiation between Casselini’s motifs and the partner’s existing visual codes.

New Era brings codes that are almost impossible to dilute — the flag, the 9THIRTY lock-up, the silhouette itself. So Casselini does not try to overwrite them. It places one confident, hand-feel motif on the most-seen surface and lets the New Era architecture carry the rest. The result reads as a genuine 9THIRTY and as a genuine Casselini object at the same time, depending on which name you started the sentence with.

That restraint is the craft. It is also why the cap works on a head in Tokyo and on a head anywhere New Era is already understood — which is most places.

How to buy it from outside Japan

This is a Japan-domestic release, but it is not Japan-only to buy.

The product page on casselini-online.com runs an English display layer and an overseas checkout (cross-border shipping and international payment) on top of the standard Japanese store, so a shopper in London, Singapore, or Los Angeles can read the listing and check out without a forwarding service.

Quantities follow the usual Casselini collaboration pattern: limited, and not guaranteed to restock once a colourway sells through — the black has already gone.

Casselini Inc. is the parent company of modetokio.com. Editorial direction is maintained independently; the New Era × Casselini collaboration receives the same coverage treatment as the other brand drops tracked through our Brand Directory. Product details and pricing were verified against the Casselini online store on 2026-06-07 and may change.
